Message from the 2019 President

3/30/2019

Ten years ago the founding COBF members set out with their founding goals; to expand the sport in Colorado, expand the awareness of the sport and expand the number of waterways that bowfishermen can utilize. In ten years the COBF has also advocated for the addition of Pike, Kokanee during the spawn and the use of crossbows for disabled bowfishersmen amongst other things. The COBF has established excellent rapport with State Parks and Wildlife. Hosted several tournaments, held many educational events and logged record fish.

Unfortunately, in recent years the COBF has failed to generate new/younger members who wish to take over the reins and generate the work to push the organization forward. In 2019 the board consists of myself and two others. To host a full schedule of tournaments is not possible with this amount of people.

In consulting with the board members from last year the following decisions have been made for 2019:

1) For 2019 memberships all fee's will be waived for new and renewal memberships. We are encouraging all interested to become a member for 2019. When you renew in 2020, if done in the renewal window you will only be charged the normal membership fees.

2) The COBF is exploring doing an outreach event in May we participate in annually in at Barr Lake. We will need help with the half-day event in Brighton. Please stay tuned for further information on this.

3) The COBF is looking to coordinate a woman's outing in April or May. More information to follow on this as well.

4) The COBF is looking to host one 100% payout tournament in 2019. This will be a big 5 format and we will also have a big fish side pot. Northern Pike will not be allowed in the Big 5 but we will allow for those fish to be weighed in the heaviest fish side pot. We have tentatively scheduled for June 29th at 11 Mile Reservoir pending the acceptance of the lake and insurance requirements. Registration for the tournament is as follows:
- $75 per team with no more than 3 persons shooting. Carp only to be weighed. This will be a 50/30/20 payout.
- $25 biggest fish pot. Any legally shot fish will be allowed for the count.
Please stay tuned for more formalized information on this!

We will be having a COBF spring meeting to finalize most of the plans above and I invite all COBF members to attend. We are going to be doing this on April the 19th. Depending on the number of members wishing to attend will finalize the location the week prior. We will be looking to have the meeting in the area near Bass Pro Shops in Denver in the Northfield shopping center. I ask that you go to the website to complete your membership information and send a message to the board of your intention to attend.

It is my intent to help the COBF through this year of building and reforming a strong board. We have had many successful years in the past and I hope to see this continue for the future as well. I am happy to answer any and all questions that you may have and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Thank you!

Amanda Bassett

2015 Board Announced

12/1/2014

This year's elections were very tight.  Altogether, we had 19 of the 38 members vote to decide on the new board.  As we continue to grow as an association, we'll continue to have more people influence each year's boards.
As you can see, many races ended up in a tie or were down to 1 or 2 votes deciding the position.  In the event of a tie, individuals who were elected for more than one position deferred the elected tie position.
Congratualtions to the 2015 Board!

2014 Annual Membership Meeting

9/17/2014

This year's Annual Membership Meeting was held on August 17th at Chatfield Reservoir with ten members in attendance.

After calling the meeting to order, the board shared an overview of the year.  All the parks hosting tournaments this year were happy with the club, they just wished we would have shot more fish.  It was a tough year for bowfishing, perhaps due to the September 2013  flooding shifting the fish populations.  There were a good variety of sponsors this year, but because of the market, companies were not able to contribute as much as in past years.   (Click here to go to the Tournaments Page to see how many fish were taken at each tournament and what sponsors contributed for prize bags.)

Looking forward to next year, the members also discussed what could be done to better improve the COBF, such as:
-More kid and community activities
-Work with the DOW for a better classification of Rough Fish.
-Review the points system and possibly adding number of fish taken as another way to earn points.
-Have more of a presence at big retailers, such as Bass Pro, Sportsman's Warehouse and Cabelas.
-Look at having alternate dates for tournaments in case of bad weather.
-And, as always, ways to increase club exposure and membership.
Information on nominating, running and voting for our 2015 COBF Board will be sent out soon.  If you have an interest in determining the future of the club, please consider running for a position.

Finally, points champions were announced and member of the year was voted on.  Congratulations to Team Headshot for winning the 2014 Points Race and to Hans Williamson for being voted as our 2014 Member of the Year.  (Click here to see photos of the winners and see the final points standings.)

If you have any questions regarding what was discussed at the meeting, you can email the board at [email protected]

Spring Classic

4/25/2014

In our continued effort of introducing the sport to the public, the COBF was invited back to the Barr Lake spring fishing clinic again this year! Next Saturday May 3rd from 8-1
Last year we were invited to help give young and old the oppor...tunity to learn how to shoot a bow. There were two shooting stations that the COBF manned that taught people safety, and general shooting basics; one station by the booth that taught about general archery safety and basics, and one on the water’s edge that emphasized the bowfishing basics. We hope to somthing similar again this year. It was such a fun time for all who participated.
Please send an email to the board at [email protected] to let us know if you can help out and we can then generate a schedule.
