Prewitt Reservoir Rumble III - June 25, 2011
Hot temperatures, low numbers of bugs, and fish moving everywhere in the shallows. That is how one could describe the Prewitt Reservoir bowfishing tournament, held this past weekend. This was one of COBF’s longest outings, with a 12 hours shooting time. That time, coupled with very warm high temps in the high eighties made for an exhausting event.Luckily, the carp were there as a reward for all those that competed. In the AM all particpants had a chance to vote on whether or not to permit boating teams to exit and wade. This proposal passed with a majority of participants voting in favor to permit boaters to exit and wade. Despite this the non-boating teams still dominated the event.
Prewitt Reservoir has traditionally been a mecca for wading teams, which is a change as most other venues give the decided advantage of mobility and access to deep podding carp to the boaters. With water temperatures in the mid seventies on the lake, and warmer still in the shallows, the carp were active all day, and cruising in water that was 2 inches to 2 feet in depth. The water clarity was an issue, and many teams were often just shooting at moving weeds, brief glimpses of fins, or the occasional splash of still spawning carp.
Non-boating team Headshot, maintained their dominance at Prewitt Reservoir with their third first place finish in as many year; and are now officially a dynasty team at this reservoir. They more than doubled last year’s first place number of fish by bringing back 142 fish to the check out. Second place went to non-boating team Pitch-Fork, with an incredible respectable showing of 131 fish. Congrats to our placing teams, as well as all the other participants who each had strong numbers of fish in their buckets.
Overall the tournament harvest 716 Carp out of the lake, putting a very small dent in Prewitt’s overall carp population. COBF would like to say thank you to Powerade and Go-Fast and all other prize sponsors, for keeping our teams awake and hydrated through this arduous but rewarding event
